Tournament rules 2026 (adjustments may occur and will be announced in news on the website and in the app)
Easy Basket Rules for age groups 2014 and 2015 at the bottom of the page.
We want respect and courtesy to characterise our entire cup. This applies to everyone involved, including players, managers, coaches, referees, officials, parents and spectators – both on and off the pitch.
With the exception of the following, the rules of the Swedish Basketball Federation apply.
- There is no limit to the number of players in the protocol (we want as many as possible to have the opportunity to participate).
- Players in the cup may not have belonged to another club after January 31.
- A player may not play in more than one team in the same age group.
- Players must have played in the group stage to participate in the playoffs.
- Ball size 6 for girls born in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.
- Ball size 6 for boys born in 2012 and 2013.
- Ball size 7 for boys born in 2010 and 2011.
- Age groups 2010–2013 play on high baskets.
- 5-on-5 play for age group 2013
- Match time 2 x 12 min effective time. Half-time break 3 min. The clock is stopped for the last 2 min of the second half when a goal is scored.
- Time-out 1/half/team. No time-outs are awarded in overtime.
- The 24-second rule is assessed by the referees as necessary.
- The 8-second rule also applies to the 2013 age group.
- Team foul at 8 fouls per half, i.e., free throw from foul 9.
- Quick throw-ins are used during the tournament.
- In the event of a tie after full time, Sudden Death (first point wins) will be applied. Free throws are also decisive in Sudden Death, which starts with a jump ball.
- The A and B finals are decided with a 3-minute overtime period.
- Zone defense is allowed for age groups 2010 and 2011.
- Zone press on the front half of the court is allowed for age groups 2010-2012, i.e., not allowed for age group 2013.
- The Eskilstuna Basketball Cup applies Fair Play, which means, among other things, that players should not try to “crush” their opponents. When leading by 20 points, players must retreat to the half-court line in defense. Violation of this rule will result in a warning to the coach, and if repeated, the coach will be penalized with a bench technical foul (B).
- Dunking is prohibited throughout the tournament - before, during, and after the game. Referees may call a technical foul, according to the rules of the Swedish Basketball Federation, before and during the game if the dunking rule is broken.
- If the teams have similar jersey colors, the away team will change to an alternative color (therefore, different colored uniforms are required).
- Only match balls are available in the halls. Warm up with your own balls.
- No time is guaranteed for warm-up on the court.
- Trophies will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place teams in both the A and B playoffs. The 1st and 2nd place teams in the A playoffs will also receive medals.
If several teams end up with the same number of points, the following ranking applies:
1. Head-to-head matches.
2. Largest point difference.
3. Most points scored.
4. Fewest points conceded.
5. Draw if nothing else can separate the teams.
- If any player/coach commits a criminal offense during the tournament, they will be immediately suspended from participating in the tournament. They will also be reported to their club, their basketball district, and possibly reported to the police.
- All consumption of alcohol is prohibited on the tournament premises. Smoking indoors is also prohibited.
Protests
Teams may protest against anything that is considered to be in violation of the applicable competition rules. Protests must be submitted immediately, no later than 15 minutes after the end of the match. A protest fee of SEK 500 per protest applies. The fee must be paid when the protest is submitted, either to the hall host in the hall in question or to the Competition Office at Volvo CE Arena. The fee will be refunded if the protest is upheld. If the fee has not been paid, the protest will not be processed. Submitted protests are handled by the Eskilstuna Basket Cup Disciplinary Committee, which consists of competition management and those responsible for refereeing.
Exemption rules
- Exemptions must be applied for in writing via the cup website before the tournament starts.
- Approved exemptions are presented on the cup website with name and year of birth.
- The coach is responsible for informing the referee, secretariat, and opposing team's coach before each match that an exempt player will be used.
- The coach must be familiar with how the exemption rules work and follow them.
- If several players on the team have approved exemptions, a maximum of one exempt player may be on the court at a time.
- When six minutes or less of the match remain, no exempt players may be on the court. Substitutions must be made immediately, at the first break in play, after this point.
- In Easy Basket, no exempt players may participate in the final period.
- The referee decides whether the exemption has been used correctly. If the exemption has been used incorrectly, the team may lose the match 20-0.
